Dr. Pusztai pioneered research into the effects of dietary lectins, including those transgenically expressed in GM crop plants. His discovery of the disturbing evidence that GM potatos damaged the immune systems, brains, livers and kidneys of rats led him to be "villefied and totally destroyed" by the scientific community (backed by the Blair government which was pressing full-force for the use of GM foods).
